How are Chemical Peels Beneficial?

Chemical peels are designed to help improve the overall appearance of your skin. A chemical peel uses an acid solution which is designed to remove damaged portions of the outer layer of skin. Chemical peels enhance and smooth the texture of your skin on your face, hands, or neck. Additional reasons why chemical peels have become so popular include:

  • The appearance of fine lines around the mouth and under the eyes is greatly reduced.
  • Skin damage caused by sun exposure and aging can be treated.
  • The appearance of scars can fade dramatically through the use of chemical peels.
  • The appearance of dark patches, uneven pigmentation, age spots, and freckles can be reduced.
  • An overall improvement to the look and feel of your skin.

Take Care of Your Face After a Chemical Peel
After you undergo a chemical peel, you will notice that your skin has become more sensitive to the sun. This is only temporary and you should apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen on a daily basis. You should also limit the amount of time that you spend in the sun. This will help you avoid any discomfort caused by sun exposure to your freshly treated skin.

Chemical peels are often performed in your physician’s office or at a surgery center. It is an out-patient procedure which means that you will not be required to stay overnight. Prior to beginning the procedure, your skin will be cleansed thoroughly. After your skin has been properly cleansed, they will then apply a chemical solution which will act as a controlled wound, allowing new skin to grow in its place. During a chemical peel you will likely feel a burning sensation which will last for approximately five to ten minutes. At this point cold compresses will likely be placed on your skin to help ease the stinging sensation you are experiencing.

If you have been considering how a chemical peel can improve the overall appearance of your skin, please feel free to contact one of our experienced staff members. They will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the procedure.
